Albernie Branch Report 2011

As a new member to the executive I required and received considerable support from the more experienced members of the executive team. I would like to express my sincere thanks to them for their mentoring and patience.

The main purpose of this association is to support its members and I firmly believe that the agenda of every executive meeting was squarely aimed at achieving this objective.

We organized and executed four local general meetings, represented your interest at the provincial AGM and also at the regional zone meeting. We helped host a local meeting sponsored by the BCRTA in April that was extremely well attended. And of course there is the annual Garden Party for new retirees that is funded by a grant we receive from the BCRTA.

Sharron Harper sent out cards of condolence to several members whose names were brought to the executive. When Sharron left for China, Katy kindly stepped in to fill this most important job. My thanks to you the members for informing us of those in need of support.

Another goal of our organization is to provide bursaries to needy and deserving students graduating from ADSS. We have almost reached the amount required to offer what has historically been two $500 bursaries.

The executive has undertaken some administrative initiatives this year:
1. Beginning work on the creation of a new Policies & Procedures document
2. Creation of a new executive position of Communications Officer
3. Establishing a calendar that includes a fixed schedule of events.
4. An initiative to rationalize our local membership list with that of the BCRTA
5. To bring to you a request to charge a nominal local fee that will enable use to more reliably pay for the costs of achieving our goals for our members.
