Campbell River Branch Report 2011

CRRTA BURSARIES – Six students have received $250 bursaries ; 2 in 2009 and 4 in 2010. The bursaries are awarded equally to students in Campbell River attending Carihi Secondary School and Timberline Secondary School.

CRRTA members met monthly from September to June. Most of our meetings involve a meal at several different restaurants in the Campbell River area which are able to handle 25 to 60 people in a setting suitable for presentations to our members.

Our annual No Bell Brunch was held on September 7th, the first day of school, at Painter's Lodge overlooking the waters of the Strait on a fine sunny day.

We met at the Driftwood in October to enjoy a Chinese food buffet and a fine presentation on Home Preparation and Presentation for Resale.

In November Travel was the topic of interest at Chances Restaurant.

December 17th was the annual Mistletoe Luncheon at the Discovery Inn.

In January we had a tour and a catered lunch at the C.R. Museum. For a number of people, it was the first time in our museum.

February was Emergency Preparedness by Ted from COSCO at Chances Restaurant.

In March we had a presentation of Power Generation and Alternate Sources by staff from C.R. city hall.

On April 6th we welcomed Judy de Vries, BCRTA; Gerry Tiede, Pension Branch and BCRTA; with Lisa and Lynda from Johnsons Inc. at the Anchor Inn for discussions on Membership in the RTA, the new EHB Plan to take effect January 1, 2012; and our insurance opportunities as a member of a very large group. A large number of our members attended.

April was the annual Tri-Local Meeting held in Campbell River at the Maritime Heritage Centre. We were entertained by a talented group of ladies singing works from many decades of song.

In June we had our AGM at the Driftwood.

Elected to our Executive Committee for 2011/12 will be: President: John Simpson; Past President: Stan Goodrich; 1st Vice President: Susan Fry; 2nd Vice President: Penny Milbrandt; Secretary: to be filled;
Treasurer: Sterling Campbell; Membership: Myrtle Craig

Respectfully submitted,
