Chilliwack Branch Report 2011

The past year has been a good one in many respects, but we still have the problem of trying to bring new faces in our executive.  The present executive is  hardworking and efficient, but is in need of some new young blood.  Recent retirees  seemingly are unwilling to become be involved with executive duties.   The only positive from this is that the present executive must be doing a fantastic job!

Our first meeting of the new school year is the” To Hell With The Bell Breakfast.”  We have been inviting new retirees to a free breakfast, but have found that we get lots of people out for the free breakfast, but it is the last we see of most of them!  Now when we contact the new retirees, we invite them to the THWTB breakfast and suggest that they join the BCRTA, and if they did so by October 1, we would invite them to attend out Christmas Dinner for free. This new venture worked well last year, and we are carrying on with the plan this year.

Highlights this year include our annual dinner put on by the students in the foods programme. Two of our Senior Secondary schools have food programmes, and we alternate between the two each year. The music programme entertains us with a most enjoyable presentation. Our final meeting each year is a strawberry social, an eagerly anticipated event.

My thanks go to our executive members who put in many hours for our local association.  Also, many, many thanks to the BCRTA executive and our two loyal “girls” in the office who go above and beyond in looking after our needs.
