Delta Branch Report 2011

Over the past year , we have enjoyed an increase in attendance at our lunches and membership. All 4 of our lunches are held at the Town and Country. They threatened us with a huge increase in the cost for each lunch which almost became prohibitive. After doing some research at other venues and negotiating with the T&C ,we settled with a minor increase and improved services. A word to the wise is a little competition is a good thing and meeting face to face with the chef really works. Our 4 newsletters,”The Truant” are now on-line for those who want it and this has saved us quite a bit of money. The paper version is still available for those who want it that way. We have been very successful in recruiting new retirees to join our association. In August we send each new retiree a personal invitation to join the DRTA which is followed up by a personal phone call by one of the executive to join and attend our first lunch in September. This works! We donated $1000.00 to the Delta scholarship fund for a worthy Delta student. At Christmas , our membership donates food and personal moneys and the association make a contribution to Deltassist who help needy Delta residents. We have had guest speakers at a couple of our lunches but basically these lunches are purely social. Fortunately ,all of the executive volunteered their time for another year so it made the transition very easy . All in all ,we have had a great year.
