Gulf Islands Branch Report 2011

  This year we:

• Conducted the business of the Association. Maintained contact with the Gulf Islands Teachers Association and attended the annual retirement dinner of the Association. Worked to ensure we recruited new members;
• held our September breakfast where we hosted the newly retired teachers. Had our Annual Christmas “get-together” and three general Lunch meetings;
• contacted our members personally and by e-mail and provided them with assistance as required. We also were a contact organization for Gulf Island retired teachers from other parts of the province and Canada;
• maintained contact with the BCRTA, worked with their programs and forwarded information as required. Attended zonal meetings on behalf of the Association. Our President is serving on the Review Commission of the BCRTA;
• held our AGM and elected table officers ;
• fulfilled our financial requirements and made our annual donation to the R. R. Smith Memorial Fund to assist overseas programs;
• many members worked in the local historical archives to document the history of Gulf Islands Schools;
• expanded our Historical Website on the history of the Gulf Islands Schools. See GIRTA.ca;
• Held three general membership meetings and four executive meetings throughout the year. • contacted members who do not live on Salt Spring Island by e-mail.

We will have two representatives at the AGM of the BCRTA in September 2010.
