Kamloops Branch Report 2011

The Kamloops Retired Teachers’ Association has had another busy and productive year to date.  We continue to meet during the months of Sept. Oct. Nov. and from January to June each year.  The Executive meet the third Tuesday of the month for a luncheon meeting and our General Meetings are held the last Friday of the month at the Cottonwood Centre.  We have an average attendance of 45-50 members at our General Meetings and we always try to have interesting speakers or programs

We have a number of very active Committees that look after Local and Provincial concerns but one we all enjoy and work hard at, is the Bursary Committee.  This year we raised funds by having  Mystery Bag draws, collecting and lending books for a loonie, collecting loose change in containers and  donation envelopes on the tables.  These were all done on a monthly basis.  In the spring we had a very successful Silent Auction and in June we ended the year with a Mystery Bus Tour all arranged by one of our members.

Our Bursary funds go to Education students at our own Thompson Rivers University.  It was my pleasure to be part of the team that presented two $1300.00 awards to very deserving students in November 2010.  We also gave out the R.R. Smith award.  The students joined us for lunch at our meeting in March and expressed their appreciation for the money received.

Our Membership Committee is always very active and to date we have just over 400 members in our Association.  We attended the Retirement Banquet in June and gave each new retiree an information package along with a complimentary lunch at one of our general meetings.  Keeping our general meetings social and interesting is the goal of our Executive.
