Kimberley Branch Report 2011
The year ended with our celebration by having the public enjoy a visit to the old Marysville School for the June parade . We didn’t enter a float this year but enjoyed the days just the same.
We have no new retirees yet this year except for administrators. Rumour has it that a couple of people may choose the life of a retiree later this summer.
We have had a relatively quiet year. A good part of our time was spent trying to get the government to look into the removal of funding for senior programs in Kimberley, which have been used by a number of our members. So far, no luck. The funding was given to a province wide company that focusses this area’s money on Cranbrook. We also worked to help the Lawn Bowling Society to gain the funding to redo the clubhouse and redo the lawns on the bowling green. Again, this is a program that was used by all seniors in our area. The Lawn Bowling secretary was fortunate to get the needed funds to complete the project and hopefully get the area in shape to become an active, healthy activity for our Kimberley residents.
Unfortunately, I was busy during the time of our zone meeting so was not able to attend. (Calving season!!)
Our executive has not changed much this year. Volunteers are difficult to get to commit. Our members volunteer in quite a number of areas in Kimberley including the Food Bank, Bavarian Railway Society, Thrift Shop, The Pines Home for Seniors, etc. so are very active in the community.
Hope to see all of you in September.
Respectfully submitted,
Karen Barraclough, President
