Langley Branch Report 2011

Langley had another good year, thanks to our LRTA executive who helped make everything run smoothly and to our LRTA members who participated in our activities.

Our To Hell With The Bell Breakfast held the first day of school, where we recognize our new retirees and hear their plans for the future was great fun.  The Lounge Brothers delighted us with songs of yesteryear encouraging us to sing along.

Through the generosity of our members with direct donations and their support for our silent auction in November we were able to give nine $500 scholarships to students who are graduating from Langley Secondary Schools.

We had two exceptional speakers this year.  Jim McGregor, former Langley Fire Chief, spoke about many issues including safety in our homes and in our community as well as emergency preparedness.  Eunice Robinson, Chair of the Board of Directors of the BC Genealogy Society, gave a talk entitled “Your Own Story – The Start of my Family History”.

Our Adventurers Gang enjoyed activities such as geo-caching in Fort Langley.

A Jazz Ensemble with Doug Makela entertained us at our AGM to close the year on an enjoyable note.

We look forward to welcoming new members and enjoying new adventures next year.

Respectfully Submitted
Annette O’Connor, President
