Heritage Committee Report
From the SUMMARY of REPORTS 2010

As our main focus is giving grants to help Branches collect and maintain their educational heritage collections, we sent money to the following for their worthwhile projects:

Kimberley RTA - $1500.00 was given in December, 2009 to pay for the natural gas and insurance on Old Marysville Schoolhouse.

Kamloops RTA – Received $700.00 in June to aid in updating their books that they have written.

Surrey RTA – received $4000.00 in June to begin the work of collecting, cataloguing and learning how to store their artifacts.

Kimberley RTA received $2000.00 in June to round out the grant they had received from Heritage Canada to paint the Old Marysville Schoolhouse.

Kootenay-Columbia received $800.00 in June to buy a camcorder to record interviews with retired teachers.

We received interim and completed reports of funded projects from previous grant recipients and know that these grants have made a huge difference in preserving our educational heritage.

The committee undertook to begin updating Lorna Robb’s book on the history of the RTA by updating the last ten years of BCRTA Committees’ history.

After our last meeting on June 22, we travelled to Richmond to see their Heritage site, General Currie School. We were warmly welcomed by Loraine Martin and her Committee and enjoyed seeing their accomplishments.

Thanks to Pat Brady, Sheila Pither, Carolyn Prellwitz, Margaret Sutton, and our newest member, Steve Bailey for all of their contributions to the work of this committee.

Respectfully Submitted
Mary Hunter, Chair
